The island is approx. 40 kilometres long &15 kilometres wide and provides protection to the Hauraki Gulf - hence its name - Great Barrier Island is one of the most tranquil, unspoilt places you will ever find. Its golden beaches, crystal clear waters and vast native forests are home to relatively few people. Nature, in all its rugged beauty, is king here.
"Redquarters" & her crew will take you there.
We will overnight in secluded bays, wake up to bird song & spend the days cruising, kayaking, fishing, snorkeling, beach & bush track walking - you could visit hot springs & a historic kauri dam - you will see birds galore and with a bit of luck, be visited by dolphins & penguins. We might just see whales, manta rays, sunfish, sharks or even spot a marlin ... or you can just sit back & relax and let it all slide by ...
Great Barrier Island (Aotea) is at the edge of the Hauraki Gulf, 90 kilometres from the heart of New Zealand’s largest city, Auckland.
