Rock Fishing
Great rock fishing can be found all around Gt Barriers extensive coastline - the combinations of currents, food, shelter, drop offs and foamy water make for some of the best land-based fishing in the Hauraki Gulf.
"Redquarters" can take up to 20 fishermen on an amazing trip around Gt Barrier Islands excellent fishing spots.
Comfortable bunks, versatile galley, heaps of freezer/chiller space, BBQ, smoker & loads of hot water for showers etc. You can fish any time you like - just have to keep in touch with the mothership and skipper Red.
You & your mates or club don’t have to fill the boat as charters can be a mix of rock fishermen, kayak & free divers - phone skipper Red for more info - 027 272 9617 anytime.
Most charters run from Friday afternoon pick up from Auckland City wharves, overnight passage to Gt Barrier Island arriving for an early morning start for the keen. Fish all day Saturday then over night at a comfortable anchorage - fish Sunday till about midday, depending on the weather then an afternoon passage back to Auckland.
Cost (as at 7/11/2009) = $200.00 per person
You will need to bring:
- all your own fishing gear, wet/cold weather gear, safety equipment etc)
- food and refreshments of you choice
- bedding
- personal supplies
The weather around 'the Barrier' can be unpredictable so bring a good variety of clothes
